Deaf Studies:
In 6th grade, Middle School students (one semester) will:
Understand that Deaf people view the world around them in a way which is visually based and culturally shaped by the collective experiences of Deaf people.
Understand how different events throughout history shape the Deaf experience and how each Deaf person today is affected by that history and study notable Deaf individuals in the past, as well as present, which will serve to inspire positive self identity.
Art and Crafts:
The art workshop will include (one semester) an introduction to art. It will also include a practice session on lettering, measuring, color-matching, painting and tape-dying.
Career/Technical Education:
The eight graders participate in the vocational exploration program where they sample the following four week classes: Auto Body Technology, Business Office Technology, Construction Technology, F.E.A.S.T. (Food Education and Service Training), Graphic Arts, and Woodworking. At the end of eighth grade of the the Career Counselor assist the students and parents in the selection of a vocational major.
Workability:
The Middle School Workability Program is funded through a state grant. Students explore the attitudes and skills needed for success in high school and college, as well as for life as a gainfully employed and productive citizens. Students visit various worksites, listen to guest speakers, and study the many options they will have after high school and beyond.
